Documentary
This past year has been far from normal for everyone, including the Cal Poly Rodeo Team and program. However, despite the challenges, the program continued to move forward.
The Poly Royal Production class, which is typically responsible for the planning and operation of the Poly Royal Rodeo, was left without an event to plan for. Instead of canceling the class all together, Coach Ben Londo came up with a solution: to create a documentary about the Cal Poly Rodeo program that highlights its members (past and present), sponsors, and boosters.
When presenting this idea to the class on the first day, it was met with an abundant amount of enthusiasm and excitement. The Rodeo Production class has fully committed to the project and has since been working hard with Agricultural Communications Assistant Professor Moses Mike, who is experienced in the filmmaking industry.
This large, daunting project was a learning experience from the start, with none of the students enrolled in the course possessing any prior background in the process of filming and producing a documentary. In true Cal Poly fashion, the class stepped up and applied the Learn by Doing motto. Working alongside Mike, the process of collecting footage and conducting interviews has begun. While still in the early stages of the documentary, the Rodeo Production class and entire rodeo team is working hard to document and tell the story of the Cal Poly Rodeo Program.
